Review of Christine (2016) by Brandon W — 21 May 2017
Christine is directed by Antonio Campos, and it stars Rebecca Hall in a biographical drama about a news reporter that is going through her personal struggles in terms of her job, and that she likes someone that either doesn't know about it, or is flirting with someone else.
When I saw that there were two movies about Christine Chubbuck, who I never heard about until those films exists, I was very curious about the subject and wanted to learn a bit about her, which I can see how there can a film here.
When I do get to find Kate Plays Christine, I'll definitely give it a watch and see how that plays out. For this one however, I found this out on Netflix, and of course I wanted to watch it. So for Christine, I thought it was quite a fascinating film to watch.
This is probably the best that I've seen of Rebecca Hall as she holds the film here, and she gives it a multi-layered performance that makes you understand clearly about what her character is going through, it makes the film feel more tense that way, and it doesn't quite spoon-fed you about what lead to Christine's depression.
What it does show in the film, are the positive and negative aspects of Christine's life that the movie makes her feel like an actual human person. The chemistry between Rebecca Hall and Michael C.
Hall is quite nice as she really cares about him, and he tries to help her out for whatever he can out of it. The characters are memorable, and it has some humor to it that's funny enough for you to not feel depressed about it once it goes up to the event.
When it gets close to the news event, I was getting tense up because I know what's going to happen, but when it does happened, I still got shocked about it because of the way it was done, which it was well-executed.
The writing is well-written, I didn't quite know where it was going, and I highly recommend Christine.
