Review of Christine (2016) by David N — 18 Feb 2017
The story of Christine Chubbuck always intrigued me, I always read stories and things about the event and I was always touched by it, which caught my attention in relation to this film. Rebecca Hall's performance portrays the transition in Christine's life very well over time (one can see this in gestures or even in a tone of voice), she has thrown all her talent into that role.
The other performances are well worthy of the film, there is no waste of talent here. It is the first work of Antonio Campos that I see and he shows a lot of competence commanding the technical aspects shown.
Cinematography is beautiful here. Full of color, vivid, it portrays much like a small town in Florida, plus a good soundtrack, with John Denver and The Guess Who. It is a film with a very heavy final act, it is difficult to see the psychological deterioration and the fateful event.
A movie that deserves attention, for sure.
