Review of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) by Andrew E — 10 Apr 2009
Excellent screen adaptation of Tennessee Williams play. A breakthrough role for Paul Newman as an aging football star, whose sexuality is ambiguous. Elizabeth Taylor smolders as Maggie "The Cat," Newman's dangerous wife.
Stagy and claustrophobic, but effectively so. The performances by Newman and Taylor are brilliant, and they sizzle as an onscreen couple.
