Review of Casualties of War (1989) by Movie K — 30 May 2011
This movie is alright. Not an action flick but more on drama. The troops are in the field and were attack by VC, Michael J.Fox was stuck to the ground which is tunnel below. Sean Penn save him. Arrive in village they were attack and one soldier shot dead.
When they return to base they have a new recon mission. They can't go out to town under the new instruction. Sean brief the troops they will go out earlier to get a girl before the mission. The new guy John Leguizamo join their troop.
John C.Reilly and Don Harvey are the other guys. They went to a village and Don kidnap a young girl. Michael thought Sean was joking during the briefing. They continue the hike with the girl in tow until they reach a safe point.
Michael question Sean doing and was mark. Leguizamo didn't want to rape the girl and ask Michael to back him up. When Sean command him to join them, he refuse. Leguizamo didn't want to be left out and forgo his pact.
All took turns to rape the girl. Next morning, they recce and saw some action. Sean ask Michael and John to reload. Don is guarding the girl. He wants some action and ask Michael to guard instead. He frees her.
Sean is angry and want Don to get them both up to join. The escape plan failed. The girl is coughing too much and Sean want Michael to kill her but he refuse. He ask Leguizamo to do it. Michael has no choice but to fire his weapon up.
The VC alerted and open fire. Don stab the girl. She didn't die and try to escape. Sean ask everyone to shoot her. Michael tries to stop but was hit by Sean and later fainted. When he awake in the base hospital, he reported to a senior officer Ving Rhames who tell him to forget it.
Michael went to find the captain but was warn by him things isn't that easy. When he go to the toilet, someone throw a grenade in but Michael escape. When he is drunk at the bar, a senior officer talk to him and he pours it all out.
After intense interrogation, they went to the location and found the corpse. Court trial finds the foursome guilty.
