(1989) Casualties Of War.
WAR/ SOCIAL COMMENTARY.
Based on actual events which is like the war equivalent of "Prince Of The Sun" centering on war crimes committed by American soldiers against the Geneva convention during the Vietnam war- not about the atrocities committed by the Vietnamese army. The movie directed by Brian DePalma focuses on a particular situation which I'm sure far worst things used to happen in Vietnam, and the atrocities are far worst back then as opposed to what's happening in "Guantanamo bay" or the war in Iraq and Afghanistan put together, but just the same illegal acts are always committed-it's whether they can get caught and charged for doing it is the real question. Stars Michael J. Fox playing ethical American soldier Eriksson for while there had just witnessed a heinous act committed by Sgt. Tony Meserve played by Sean Penn which regards a raping of a defenseless Vietnamese girl and then shot in cold blood for a cover up. We are witnessing this event and more in accordance to Eriksson's point-of-view almost in the same tradition as "Platoon" directed by Oliver Stone. And although, it's based on a book written by Daniel Lang, I was already aware about this which doesn't seem like nothing I didn't know already from documentaries and so forth such as Vietnamese women raped or being prostituted before being abandoned leaving them to look after some American soldiers children( which this was shown from one of the "Missing In Action" movies, and torture tactics also committed by American soldiers. I liked this movie at the time I saw it which was like back in 1989 by means in accordance to a single person but it's like what about the other stories... don't they need to be told as well for it only dwells on one incident out of many. Because the US is not a Third World country always have to hold to a higher standard.
2.5 out of 4 stars.
