Review of Casshern (2004) by Archduke P — 01 Jun 2009
An interesting sci-fi epic, this film is really a cross between Snyder's Watcmen and Blade Runner. The plot losely follows a reincarnated spirit's attempts to hunt down and destroy four genetically recreated humans who's army of robots threatens the post apcalyptic totalitarian state.
Its a very interesting idea which is more of a comment on the human condition (with an unusual conclusion) than a straightforward narrative. As an adaptation from a 70's manga, it has a very distinct style which works for the long-shots, but not so much for the individual styles.
It also lacks any realism, most of the characters fight with superhuman abilities. Overall, its an interesting film but its a bit of a mess and if you're still interested by the conclusion you'll be lucky to work out what's actually going on.
