Review of Carol (1970) by Wesley B — 09 Mar 2016
Todd Haynes finally managed to meld his love of classic film, gay themes and difficult personal issues into a thoroughly satisfying emotional journey, trusting a love story, and celebrating a woman finding herself.
As brilliantly bravura as a film like this would have been at the time it takes place, Carol makes a convincing case that the power of this story is timeless. Cate Blanchett remains luminous, while Rooney Mara takes her place as the screen's lushest young enigma.
