Review of Calvaire (2005) by Thanasis A — 01 Apr 2011
I was looking for another french movie to watch this week and I came across this belgian/french movie about a singer who got stuck with his broken van in the middle of a forest and then is helped by a local guy, who apparently is looking for his lost dog.
They went to an old inn located not so far from where he left his van. The hotel's owner is happy to accommodate an artist, as he was back in the days, and then the singer falls into a spiral of madness, humiliation and violance.
The movie is considered an horror movie, but is more like a phsycological thriller as we see the agony of the singer develops through the climax. It is a good art, not-mainstream kind of movie, with a suggestive ending.
