Review of Cabin Fever (2003) by Billy B — 07 Dec 2009

Gruesome. The film is full of blood, and the whole virus sores on the skin are cringing to look at. The film is very laid back, in the sense that every scene always has a comic relief, which at some points really killed the mood. There are some very disgusting moments in the movie, especially when you see a woman with no lips because the virus has rotted her flesh away. Sometimes while watching it seemed like you were watching a totally different movie, because the pace and mood was quickly changed specifically for tension, but it wasn't successful in spooking us because one characters comical personality just ruined the atmosphere. The ending really got me pumping, because it somewhat leaves an opening for a second film, plus it means the virus has spreaed... and quickly at that.

The plot is definately original, and kudos to "Eli Roth", who's first film is a fun horror flick. He successfully made us sympathise with all characters at one point, but also made is completely disagree at others. There were certain elements that I found to be pointless, and just seemed to be put there to fill the time. The opening credit sequence was enough to bore anyone also, it went for way too long with nothingt happening.

The acting was good, with even "Eli Roth" making a cameo. "Rider Strong" was the lead, and he didn't master pulling us in with the believability factor, but at some scenes was able to. "Cerina Vincent" and "Jordan Ladd" were both watchable, and both were realistic and believable. Also to note, "Pancake Boy", who had a 10 second karate sequence, a wierd wierd scene, was entertaining.

Overall "Cabin Fever" is a entertaining blood fest that will make you cringe, and definately make you think twice about renting a cabin in the woods. My rating is 3/5.
