Review of Bukowski: Born Into This (2003) by Hunter D — 25 Jun 2010
The only thing I knew about Charles Bukowski going into this was the following: 1) He drank. A lot. 2) His face looks like a quarry that had been blown to bits with dynamite. 3) He wrote FACTOTUM and BARFLY, which was made into a movie starring the similarly-attractive Mickey Rourke.
That's about it. Fortunately this documentary is quite friendly to the uninitiated such as myself, though I'm not sure how it will play to fans of Bukowski's work, although the insights and anecdotes from friends will shed some light on the life of the man behind the many novels and poems he produced during his lifetime, not to mention the wealth of interview footage contained here.
This film will pique the interest of those ignorant to Bukowski's work such as myself, but die-hards might find something to enjoy as well.
