Review of Bukowski: Born Into This (2003) by Joe M — 02 Aug 2007
Outside of seeing Barfly and liking those two Modest Mouse songs, I don't know much about Charles Bukowski. So any major points missed or "I can't believe they didn't talk about ____" moments would have been lost on me. But for someone with only a precursory knowledge I learned a lot. The film very skillfully edits together a slew of footage gathered from over the years and offers a full spectrum his persona. We see him angry, drunk and in a fury as well as helpless, fragile and in tears.
If anything the film makes the point that Isaac Brock was right. He may have been a pretty good read but who'd want to be such an asshole?
