Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by Thomas W — 20 Jan 2012
Bruce Campbell does not often get to invest himself in a role that promotes a sense of awareness, but as an aged man who may or may not be the actual living Elvis, we are given more than a campy monster film.
We are given, instead, a treatment on identity, of personal conviction, and our understanding of our own mortality. It is meant to be presented in a goofy shell - the subject matter is so dense, so strikingly depressing, that any other approach would have been too much to handle.
Oddly significant.
