Review of Bronson (2009) by Brent C — 18 Feb 2013
Based on a true story, Nicolas Wind Refn's ("Valhalla Rising", "Drive") features Tom Hardy in an incomparable performance as Michael Peterson (a.k.a. "Charlie Bronson") the supposedly "most violent criminal" in Britain's prison system.
Blending black comedy and horror, this disturbing character study delves one into the surreal fantasy world of Peterson and his alter ego. Despite its subject matter, "Bronson" proves not only to be engrossing and incredibly intriguing, but also, at times, humorous.
Refn does an excellent job at keeping this film from derailing into something that we have seen before and molds "Bronson" into highly original storytelling.
