Review of Bronson (2009) by Kevin R — 02 Apr 2018
Michael Peterson aka Charlie Bronson is such a charismatic lunatic that any sort of conventional narrative would be impossible to hold him on screen. They have him telling his story in front of an audience like a one man theater play as well as in a pitch black room by himself looking straight into the camera.
The performance by Tom Hardy is from another planet, much like the character. The most impressive thing is how physical his performance is. Nicolas Winding Refn fully embraces the idea that Bronson is a performance artist.
Dramatically the film is lacking. But how much better could this film be with a character as big as Bronson?
