Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Derek V — 07 Jun 2007
David Lean's mid-forties output is arguably his best work. These were more minimalist than the late fifties and early sixties epics that he's probably best known for. At his best when directing the works of Dickens and in this case Noel Coward.
The use of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano concerto just completes the greatness.
