Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Dave H — 08 Jan 2014
One of the most beautiful movies of all time, Brief Encounter is a flawless, marvellous film. Bittersweet yet endearing, passionate yet down-to-earth, Johnson and Howard's love story is a pure and genuine one, even if both of them are married and their affair is doomed from the start.
What's also impressive it's how adultery is portrayed here: instead of condemning the pair, the film gives a complex and understanding view into their love - and why they've fallen for each other.
Simple, elegant, but unforgettable, this gem is a must-see for every romantic out there.
