Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Sam R — 26 Aug 2008
Impressive drama but very slow. I found it hard to get into straight away but soon I was drawn in by the characters. I thought it would be a typical story of a woman trying to get away from her abusive husband but it turns out to be completely different, he's actually a very complex character and although it hints he may get nasty, he turns out to be a good man in the wrong marriage.
It all leads up to a heartbreaking scene when the time comes for them to return home but in a bittersweet way, it's an uplifting film but you have to get to the end to see it and there's a lot of pain along the way.
