Review of Brick (2006) by Davey M — 18 Jul 2010
An old-school film noir set in high school is a stroke of genius--high school is perhaps where most of us experience the cliques and crime rings and gangs of thugs, and the dark combination of the sexual and the existential that are at the heart of, for instance, "The Big Sleep.
" Unfortunately, much of the rest of "Brick" lacks the inspiration of its premise, but it's a very smooth, well-crafted, and entertaining movie, if not always brilliant. And the terrific results from an obviously low budget make you want to go out and make a cool movie too.
