Review of Brick (2006) by Afm185 — 21 Jun 2020
This movie isn’t very enjoyable. It’s intriguing but it’s so convoluted that I found myself wondering what the hell was going on and even when things are revealed I still wasn’t really following.
It’s not as smart as it thinks it is, and that’s a pretty consistent issue. Frankly I don’t know exactly how to talk about it or how to rate it. It’s just such a confusing experience and though I think that’s sort of intentional it detracts from how enjoyable it is.
I like Brandon, the main character. He’s really complex and smart and he’s a cool guy. But other than finding out what’s happening he doesn’t really have a goal. I didn’t know what he wanted after a certain point.
And then the other characters are honestly just as confusing. I couldn’t get a hold on what anyone else was trying to do either. In the end, it’s just a pretty unsatisfying mystery with some smart dialogue.
