Review of Breaking the Waves (2014) by Hi H — 14 Dec 2007
Bleak von trier. shows how disastrous a world where you make your own rules can be. the bubble that Bess and her paralyzed husband concoct for themselves, to cope with the tragedy, tears them apart rather than brings them closer together.
von trier's reaction against christian prayer is obvious if somewhat maligned. as a socialist tale, this is as informed but at times heartless as they come.
