Review of Le Doulos (1962) by Hi H — 28 Oct 2008
Shyamalan's Unbreakable is another film that has paid homage to Melville's Le Doulos. Noir has never been a priority in my book but there is a flair that inhabits Maurice the burglar, whom you can't help admiring despite how malevolent he is.
The gunshot scenes have this odd stylised realism to it - so down to earth it's almost unreal. The car scene is also an eye opener. For it's time it's quite special. I'm still more a Godard/Truffaut fan though.
