Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Miles C — 21 Feb 2014
Skipping back and forth through bouts of black comedy and wry drama with endearing fluidity, Blue Jasmine is, in all respects, quintessentially Woody Allen and wonderfully entertaining.
Cate Blanchett is radiant throughout, offering a powerhouse performance that, much like her character, demands constant attention. Her anxieties and delusions hark back to Gloria Swanson's Norma Desmond In Sunset Boulevard with a gloomy comedic side to boot, and Allen's film is a refreshing and alluring one in all aspects; living proof that the great auteur has far from lost his touch. Stunning performance-driven drama.
