Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Dawdlingpoet — 27 Nov 2021
This is an amusing film about a well to do family. I suppose its pretty typical, as Woody Allen films go, so I wouldn't say its free from cliches or is entirely original. However, its a pretty pleasant watch regardless. I quite liked the easy listening, jazz type music played in the background of some scenes.
The plot pace is somewhat slow but I didn't feel bored or entirely distracted - I enjoyed seeing how characters interacted with one another, who opened up to who and so on. Its about social class, with the main character clearly viewing herself as a socialite but having to become accustomed to the less than flamboyant environs of her sister. Its amusing if you like seeing people being brought down a peg or two, social class wise. There are some cringey moments and I thought Cate Blanchett did quite well in portraying the titular character, Jasmine. I found myself laughing at some scenes, when Jasmine finds herself in infuriating circumstances.
This is an easy, laidback sort of a watch - its nothing particularly special but its by no means a bad watch. Its certainly worth a watch, especially if your a fan of Cate Blanchett.
