Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Mike T — 26 Oct 2010
What starts off as a conventional and easy movie slowly spins a yarn that ends in very unexpected twists and developments. After about 40 or 50 minutes my interest faded, but sticking it out proved very worthwhile, as the direction in this film is peerless.
Featuring convincing acting, a direction that is both dark and moody while simulateously a gritty western, it's evident that even in the Coen brothers' first feature film that their talent was immense and had an eye for interesting and engrossing movies featuring very simple ideas.
In its simplicity there is also quiet intensity, slowly building on itself and ends as straightforward as it begins.
