Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Jenna I — 23 Sep 2016
Goddamn, what a movie. It goes from a simple love triangle to a gradually and genuinely terrifying movie in an hour and a half. What's genius about it, and what makes most Coen Brothers movies so genius, is the sheer weight of pointlessness as a motivation- everybody's dying horrifically, or being scarred for life, and its just because of a series of misunderstandings and mistakes.
It -was- simple, it -could- have been simple, but instead it becomes this nightmare of details that could have gone any which way but instead everything lined up for the jackpot of death. Loved the last scene as well, what a last sight to see just before you die to really drive in how pointless your life was and everything was.
