Review of Blonde (2022) by Melb2022 — 11 Oct 2022
This movie is just awful. It comes across as very misogynistic and honestly just ridiculous. The scenes are portraying a meek, sad woman rather than the intelligent, kind and strong woman she was. Marilyn was a pioneer in many ways.
She fought for equality and was an advocate for civil rights. She was not a bimbo as portrayed in "Blonde". This movie did not flow smoothly. The scenes were jumping back and forth, and it seemed as if there was no reason as to why some scenes were in black and white and some in color.
It was just bad. I have seen other Marilyn movies, and this does not hold a candle to the others. Honestly, I am not sure why this was made except to tarnish her name. I wish I had not watched it because I cannot get those 165 minutes back of my life.
I am not sure where the disconnect began or who caused this to fall short, but anyone involved in this project may want to rethink their life choices. You can portray her as a whore and ignorant, but you cannot be too ignorant if people are still making movies about you 60 years after your death.
I am not familiar with Ana De Armas, but I will not seek out her bodies of work. That may have been different if I had seen her in other films, but this is my point of reference, and it is not good. Do not waste your time, you will regret it.
