Review of Blessed Are the Children (2016) by Rick R — 12 Nov 2016
Way better than average no-budget slasher flick with a strong ensemble of characters, some truly terrifying set pieces, and haunting imagery. Kaley Ball, Keni Bounds, and Arian Thigpen are all terrific in their roles as the three leads.
They're adorable, sassy, and likable. It really makes a huge difference when there's a horror film with characters you want to root for. The killers themselves are imposing - typically silent except during their harrowing phone calls to their victims which reminded me of something out of Black Christmas or The Exorcist.
Very scary! Some might be turned off by the abortion stuff, but, honestly, it's not THAT big of a part of the film and it never takes much of a stance either way. It's just a great, solid, suspenseful, and super scary movie.
Must see!
