Review of The Suckling (1990) by Pigeon K — 02 Oct 2015
The title says it all: This movie sucks. I wanted so-bad-it's-good, but this (like Dolly Dearest the day before) was mostly just bad. The Suckling has little spurts of fun (like when they throw a dummy face first into a toilet) and the ending where the main character is in the institution seemed like a really interesting concept.
If this movie were more like the ending (where a woman has a killer fetus inside her and she goes around murdering people in an insane asylum) would be awesome. But The Suckling is like 2% fun, with 98% people sitting in a living room.
It's boring and dreadful. The acting is awful (which is to be expected), but they seem to be taking this all too seriously. And that only contrasts with when they stop taking it seriously when the goofy moments happen.
It has absurd moments, a neat-looking monster suit, stop-motion animation, puppets, and bad SFX (the gunshots that couldn't pierce wooden doors was hilarious), but the entire thing just felt off. There was no charm, and some parts were a bit too disturbing for something like this (like the fetus jumping back in.
..). It should be avoided except for the most curious (and you know who you are).
