Review of Beat the Devil (1953) by Mike S — 15 Aug 2008

Funny film, very understated, but sadly very poorly put on DVD. The picture is in pan & scan, and is blotchy and blurry, although apparently it looked pretty cheap when it was made too, so I guess that doesn't help.

This film was a flop when it came out, and Bogart hated it, but considering he paid for it, then that's probably why. Also, I don't think he quite got the picture, which was ahead of it's time.

I thought the affair between Bogart and Jones was quite surprisingly played, considering the censors.
