Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Rachael B — 23 Nov 2012
A delicious mix of black comedy, action, and horror, Battle Royale is what The Hunger Games has nightmares about. It's incredibly violent, enough so to be one of Quentin Tarantino's favorite movies, and yet much of the dialogue is about adolescent love.
The movie is much more interesting than its American copycat, The Hunger Games, mainly because it's much less restrained in its depiction of the bloodshed taking place during the competition. If you don't mind the extraordinary amounts of brutality and gore, Battle Royale is a very fun and exciting movie that doesn't pull any punches in terms of violence.
