Review of Battle Royale (2000) by All_Buttru4 — 11 Oct 2021
The most unusual addition to my all time favourites. It takes a frightening concept, a commanding cast with an iconic Japanese horror director to provide landmark in cinematic history. One that would spawn imitators no where near it's original gore or realism.
The use of a young cast makes the movie all the more impactful unlike the blockbuster copies(see:hunger games) it uses child acts we can feel attached and protective of. Blameless students made into killers to pay for the mistakes of parents.
The ensemble cast makes the stakes high because you aren't given assurance as too who will make it. The worst sides of human nature are put on display. And although you will not like what you will see you will be glued to the screen biting your nails through the majority of it.
A masterpiece.
