Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Matm — 07 Feb 2021

I just watched "Battle Royale" in 2021, and it was so much fun to see again. I think this movie is the closest I have ever seen to a live action anime, and without any wire-fu or CGI. It is more about the shot composition and wardrobe style.

There is so much blood, so clearly this film is not for everyone, but if on screen violence doesn't offend you, this movie is a must see. The appeal isn't all about the gore, though. It tells a really wonderful tale of youthful camaraderie and how any one of us could be just an inch away from becoming a killer if our expected societal protections were taken away.
