Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Oliver E — 21 Mar 2013
Very interesting plot, kept my attention constantly and quite entertaining. But I really couldn't take the film that seriously. Nothing about it was remotely realistic. Everyone seemed to die when they chose to, some were seemingly invisible some seemed to die from paper cuts, and when the teacher dies at the end I don't know if that was supposed to be a humorous moment or not, but I couldn't even laugh at how dumb that was.
It really could have been incredibly suspenseful to, but Fukasaku almost seemed like he was trying to avoid it being suspenseful and focus on it just being as fast-paced and violent as it could be, which isn't the most effective method, I think.
