Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Late R — 26 Nov 2017
It may not be for everyone and those who are not too familiar with Japanese cinema may be a bit surprised by what they're seeing and the tone of the film, but this is THE original 'Hunger Games' and it's far better in nearly every aspect.
With a unique premise that manages to cover a number of genres and deliver poignant commentary on a lot of social issues, 'Battle Royale' is deeper than you might assume. What really slaps you in the face, however, is not what it has to say about society; no, it's the full-on gory show that will satisfy even the blood thirstiest of people and the tension that only builds as things move forward.
Wickedly entertaining.
