Review of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (2016) by Rob C — 10 Oct 2016
While this year has been rather depressing when it comes to Batman films, "Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders" is a great change of pace. The movie perfectly captures the essence of the 66' show, with Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar sliding perfectly back into their respective roles.
As for the characters not portrayed by their original actors, they fit in just fine. They sound and act just like they did in the show. While some past parodies haven't been able to find the right balance between tribute and making fun of, "Return of the Caped Crusaders" balances it perfectly.
They'll do something stereotypical from the show and poke fun at it, but not dive in and flat out say "this is stupid." It's plot definitely feels big enough for a movie, almost like the biggest episode of the show ever.
It was so faithful to the show that it really felt like an hour and a half long episode, which works in it's favor. I'd see this again in a heartbeat, and I couldn't find many flaws in it.
I saw it in theaters for the day it was in, and that is the best way to experience it. When it hits the shelves on November 1st, be sure to buy it, maybe even on Blu-Ray if that floats your boat. I had a fantastic time with this movie, and I hope everyone else can, too! Just by how well this one went, I can't wait to see how the sequel with William Shatner turns out!
