Review of Basic Instinct (1992) by Kirby P — 06 Aug 2011
The DVD format is handy for pause, zoom, pan features! Probably would have worked even better on a Blu-Ray if one is offered. And it ain't just the famous Gratuitous Beaver Shot to check out; you get to see both Sharon Stone and Jeannie Tripplehorn nekkid on several occasions -- and you get to see entirely too much of Michael Douglas' bare ass. Anyhow, this really is an intriguing movie, although there is one blatant plot hole near the end where a girl is killed because she won't take her hand out of her pocket. There's no reason for her not to take her hand out of her pocket.
One extra on the DVD is a detailed account of how this film was cleaned up for network TV. The answer: very badly. It stands as a powerful lesson in why we should NEVER watch movies on network TV!
