Review of Barney's Version (2010) by Greg M — 22 May 2012
I didn't expect much from this movie, but who cares because this movie was really good! Just like in the movie Sideways Paul Giamatti gives us a top notch performance. I shouldn't really compare this movie to the movie Sideways because there both two different films and plus I already know Sideways was better, so I don't have to talk about that.
So anyways Barney's Version is about a wild ride through the life and memories of Barney Panofsky, a hard-drinking, cigar smoking, foulmouthed, 65-year old hockeyfanatic and television producer. The movie talks about his marriages, his children and the fact that he's a very unhappy person, but when he meets the woman of his dreams he feels whole.
Yes I did find this movie to be a bit of a downer and tad bit sad, but at same time I found this movie to be really moving and really powerful. This movie Barney's Version is just proof that Paul Giamatti is a terrific actor.
