Review of Baraka (1992) by Ryan H — 17 Apr 2011
This was the most amazing experience I have ever had in a theater. For me, film has always been about showing people life from a different perspective and opening the eyes of people around the world. Fricke does this in such a beautiful way.
He never has to say anything to the audience in words, but he lets them experience the film on their own. I could not move, I could not speak, I could only sit their and let Fricke take me through the world he sees.
I never wanted it to be over. If it was 10 hours longer I would have never noticed. I was sad it was over. Fricke juxtaposes certain scenes to guide the audience in comparing their life to that of what's in the world.
It starts out with a mountain, and we move through the wildlife in the area. Then it turns into a primitive society, and from there it goes into our modern society, then takes us back through other cultures and then to nature.
Every single shot is perfection. I hope that I will one day get to experience something like this again.
