Review of Baraka (1992) by Tibor B — 14 Oct 2012
Some stunning images from around the world in this travelogue/documentary film. Its origins are as a technical exercise for a then new 70mm camera system, and director Fricke was cinematographer on the similar Koyaanisqatsi.
Unfortunately this is fairly clear throughout, as I couldn't feel a driving philosophy or fundamental theme giving the film a strong foundation to the images. It's still certainly worth a watch for armchair explorersor those interested in geographical documentaries, but it doesn't quite transcend above an impressive technical feat.
