Review of Baraka (1992) by Christopher A — 16 Oct 2012
Ron Fricke captured a far more stirring glimpse of the world than his previous work on Koyaanisqatsi. Stirring perhaps purely because he focused the camera on people, instead of just their artifacts. Baraka makes the world seem small.
With no narrative or interpretation, we experience people of dozens of diverse cultures in a way that we can identify in a deeply personal way, no matter how strange they seem from our culture's perspective.
This film will will help you appreciate people you've never known existed. It will remind you of the greatest and the worst aspects of the human animal.
