Review of Bandits (1987) by Trisha W — 24 Nov 2013

The story is about Joe Blake and Terry Collins played by Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton who are both sleepover bandits/bank robbers and they just escaped from prison. Joe is a fighter yet has anger management issues and Terry is smart yet has sanitation issues.

Apparently the money is federally insured by the government who steals money from people and Joe and Terry both take it back to the people as explained by Joe himself. When lifeless loser Kate Wheeler played by Cate Blanchett joins them along with Joe's stuntman cousin Harvey Pollard played by Troy Garity, she learns how to become one of them with Joe falling in love with Kate.

But when they separate after a road accident, Terry falls in love with Kate too causing a fight with Joe but she helps to break up the argument and reunite the trio as friends while Harvey waits for their biggest mission yet in Mexico where a million dollar reward is waiting for the person who captures both Joe and Terry.

I've been trying to watch this movie for a long time and I'm glad I got the chance now. Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton practically carry the show all by themselves. Cate Blanchett's character was annoying; you didn't have to make her a childish bitch.

Troy Garity as Harvey was a great additon to the main cast. While the movie is as funny as it was expected to be, maybe if you look at the film from a different genre, I guarantee you will like it way better.

This movie is a dark crime thriller that lets itself shine very well. Bandits gets a 9.6/10.
