Review of Fame (1936) by Trisha W — 09 Jan 2009
This film did nothing for me. It was 2 hours of entertainment where I just sat and mindlessly watched a screen, but this film was pretty mediocre. The intertwined stories of different characters at the performing arts school didn't seem to be as focused as I would have thought.
Each story seemed to be undeveloped, except for the one with Doris. The others just seemed to be little snippets that left you unsatisfied by what you saw. The direction seemed to take off in a few of the scenes, but in general not be anything special.
The film didn't seem to have anything about it that made it stand out, except for the lead song, which is quite remembered. The fact that many of the characters climaxed at a turn-around point, either turning compassionate, getting an abortion, smoking pot, etc seemed fake.
The film was not a bad film by any means, it just wasn't anything special either.
