Review of Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) by Stefanos T — 26 Dec 2010
There are certainly no films that are as unique as this one. From what I've read, this film is supposed to be an a subdued allegory to the human condition. Personally, I didn't buy any of it maybe because I'm not that profound.
In cinematic terms, Au Hasard Balthazar does not re invent the wheel or demonstrates any innovative techniques like other directors of that period of time. All in all, this picture is highly selective but also rewarding if you are able to pick up the concealed symbolism.
