Review of Armageddon (1998) by Kevin R — 13 Feb 2015
None of them want to pay taxes again...ever.
The Earth is struck by a meteor that causes NASA to discover an asteroid the size of Texas is about to hit the Earth. NASA feels the only way to save the planet is to hire the world's greatest drillers, place them on the asteroid, have them drill 800 feet into the asteroid's core, place a nuclear bomb in the hole, and blow it up. They select a family run business, train them in 12 days, and send them into space. Can this group of amateurs save the planet?
"It doesn't matter where it hits, nothing would survive, not even bacteria.".
Michael Bay, director of Bad Boys 1 & 2, The Rock, Transformers 1-4, The Island, Pain & Gain, Pearl Harbor, and the upcoming Bad Boys 3, delivers Armageddon. The storyline for this picture is actually very well done and heartfelt. The drama between the father, daughter, and boyfriend was very well executed. The acting was also solid and includes Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Billy Bob Thornton, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Will Patton, and Keith David.
"You shouldn't be here.".
"I don't have anywhere else to go.".
I grabbed this off HBOGO because I always liked this and thought it was a legitimately heartfelt picture. The soundtrack, by Aerosmith, is also bananas and amongst my favorites. This is a must see and borderline worth adding to your DVD collection.
"I'm not going to kill him. I'm going to shoot his foot off. A man can work with one foot.".
Grade: B.
