The European cut of this is the one to see; 142 minutes. The American cut runs 119 minutes and abbreviates some of the sub-plots that help the European cut. The result is a somewhat uneven film that struggle to find its voice.

However, there is a bit more direct line of humor shown in the heavily edited American cut. Depp, Lewis and Dunaway are great as always. The European cut should be put to DVD and / or Blu-ray in the US.
