Review of Another Year (2010) by Celeste W — 11 Feb 2011
The very people and everyday activities that seem achingly boring and nowhere when we're young are the very ones we seek when life goes off-course. Tom and Gerri are the centered loving couple in this British nugget who provide the simple normalcy that others crave - the aging co-worker who counts on her fleeting looks for inappropriate flirtations.
..the college buddy whose race against retirement is fueled by food, booze and the realization that his job is all he has left...and the silent brother at his wife's funeral, attended by a handful of ambivalent mourners and their raging son who arrives just as the service ends.
With slow pacing and riveting dialogue, the accomplished actors invite us to join them at Tom and Gerri's haven of acceptance and hope.
