Review of Annie (2014) by Locoguy107 — 03 Jan 2015
What's with everyone bullfricking about this movie being "bad"? I mean, yes, the lyrics might be simplistic, and the choreography might be somewhat lacking, and the movie may have a touch of one or two plotholes, but the story's solid and has one of the lightest attitudes I've seen in a long time, even if it's a reboot of a movie I haven't seen. I mean, sure, Big Hero 6 and HTTYD2 may also have their places, but they're animated. It's so much of a happy ride that even if all of you don't find my review helpful at all, it's worth noting that they are at least *trying* to make us happy. Seeing this made me happier than -- slightly unrelated, but -- the modern purple lizard from Toys R Us. Annie is cute, even if she can be hard to look at at times.
Also, I've heard that the Hannigan in this movie is really "bad." Look, she may not be the bloodlust original who has the butler kill Annie at the end, but the modern equivalent of the "mean" nanny still retains her drunkeness in the beginning, and even if Annie doesn't get killed in the end, you gotta remember that movie and plot design has moved to the point that the star protagonists aren't allowed to die, after all. Look at Harry Potter's "death" in DH-Part 2: he came back to life, right? And then Harry becomes happy in the end, right? Happiness is immortal, and death is the end of happiness, so I just accepted the fact that nobody dies and liked the happy ride.
