Review of Angel-A (2005) by Tony P — 29 Mar 2008
A rich little love story. I'm always very interested in the personification of the supernatural, and Besson short changed me on that a little bit. The sort of cartoony sets with gorgeous lighting really emphasizes the fantasy elements.
Rie Resmussen is incredibly sexy in a sleazy sort of way. In fact, the whole movie has this appeal. The performance is great, as is Jamel Debbouze's. I expected a climax that was enormously creative, but it simply ended with the greatest human effort possible.
I think the problem was the character's arc in arriving there had a few gaps or something. It's a lovely film, nonetheless. Good script, well directed, but weak compared to other Luc Besson films.
