Review of Angel-A (2005) by Nick D — 22 Aug 2010
A little different from the usual Luc Besson film, it goes without saying. I enjoyed this film much better than I expected to, which is always a very rewarding thing in a film! Shot in black and white I feel it matches the alabaster builldings and contrasts of Paris, using Paris as an artisitc backdrop; anyone having spent time there and walked around alone long enough around the city will recognise the feeling and familiar scenery.
Some of the comedy double takes and moments may come across as a little naive and contrived but the actors pull it off. More so because the story makes you warm to their characters. The final scenes propel the film into another league as the dialouge and the acting really surpass your expectations and make the heartfelt nature of the film more clear.
