Boasting emotional power without being maudlin and performances from Firth and Broadbent that stray away from over-sentimentalism (which would've nearly displayed a fake ground), "When Did You Last See Your Father?" establishes itself as a small yet terrific father-son story that shows the relationship can be tested by secrets and even grief, but is always overcome by love.
